A SCHEFFLERA BANYAN stands guard on my old stoop this summer. I found this lone behemoth in a nursery on 80th Street across St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village last year, well within the route of one of my weekend walks. I didn't buy it right away, wondering where the heck will I put it in the winter, but after clearing up an outsize space by the thermostat last week, I decided I had to go back to Joe's Greenery with my truck and finally have the monster. Now its Mothman has a new stomping ground in Maspeth in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
